This show was a blast!
As the official horse show photographer for the Marshfield Saddle Club, and it was my first show back behind the camera since moving home to Wausau. I spent several years living in Appleton, but being back in Central Wisconsin feels really good. Being ringside with a camera again? Even better!
It was hot. 80+ degrees. Dust everywhere. Full sun all day. And still—these riders showed up, zipped into hunt jackets, and went to work! Watching full classes go in that heat was equal parts impressive and slightly unhinged… in the best way.
The show grounds sit just outside of Marshfield and it’s a great setup. Open space. Clean arena. A solid eastern backdrop that kept the light working for us all day. Add in a mix of riders of all ages and experience levels, and the energy stayed high from the first class to the last.
Now for the part that got me.
My heart horse growing up was PawPaw, my leopard-spotted POA who always stood out in the ring. So pulling in and seeing a whole lineup of PawPaw lookalikes made me smile instantly! Watching those girls and their ponies confidently show, turn in clean patterns, and represent the POA breed so well was a huge highlight of the day. Those ponies absolutely showed up.
And honestly? Everyone did.
Every horse and rider pair brought it. Clean patterns. Confident rides. Riders showing their hearts out. I was blown away across the board—and yes, absolutely 10x better than I ever was!
Huge shoutout to the judges and the crew running the show. Things moved smoothly, stayed on schedule, and felt genuinely well-run. Extra appreciation for making sure I stayed hydrated in that heat. MVP behavior!
I’m so grateful for the chance to photograph such a fun, well-organized event and capture all the grit, effort, and big moments at the Marshfield Saddle Club. I had a great time—and I’d love to be back next year!
