Spring Family Photos With Horses Medford, WI | The Dums Family

spring family photos with horses

This session?? So dang good.

I met up with Blake, Ashley, and their 2-year-old daughter Jolene out at their place just outside of Medford for their spring family photos with horses in Medford, WI—and immediately I was like, yep. This is gonna be a good one.

We started out in their arena, freshly drug and literally smelling like spring. I don’t know how else to explain it but if you know, you know 😂

The sun was dropping right over the tree line and lighting everything up perfectly. Like… one of those nights where you don’t have to work for it, it just shows up.

And the crew showed UP.

4 horses (including Ashley’s new yearling, Miley), Daisy the donkey, 3 dogs, and Henry the cat doing his usual “I’ll join when I feel like it” routine.

And somehow?? Everyone behaved.

The dogs laid down and STAYED… even when Jolene decided they were basically plush couches. I’m still not over that 😂

The horses—and Daisy—were completely unfazed by everything. And I’m not kidding when I say I’ve never had mares perk their ears like that. Usually I’m working with the classic “angry mare face” but not this time.

Even Miley just stood there like she’s been doing this her whole life.

Jolene = absolute star

Miss girl was in her opinionated era and she was standing by it 😂

She ran the show and honestly? It worked.

I let her do her thing—running around, making her own rules, snuggling Henry whenever she found him. And every once in a while she’d flash that smile—eyes closed, biggest grin. I mean… come on. So cute.

At one point she was over the horses, so I rolled with it. Put them back out and just followed her lead.

We hit the little trail bridges, climbed on tires, checked puddles for frogs (very important), and of course… found Henry again LOL.

Jolene fits her name. Total little spitfire.

Why I loved this one

This is exactly what spring family photos with horses should feel like.

Nothing forced. Nothing stiff.

I adjusted as we went, followed her lead, and let the evening unfold instead of trying to control it.

And it paid off.

We wrapped everything up with the prettiest spring sunset—the kind that makes you stop for a second like… okay yeah, this is why I do this.

Thinking about booking family photos with horses?

If you’ve been thinking about booking family photos with horses… this is your sign. For real.

These sessions are FUN. Easy. Zero pressure.

You’re not showing up to stand there awkwardly while I over-pose you. We’re moving, laughing, adjusting as we go, and actually making this feel like a good time—not a chore.

I’ll guide you the whole way so you’re never wondering what to do, but nothing feels forced. Kids get to be wild. Horses get to be themselves. And it all comes together into photos that actually look like your life (but better).

And the best part? You don’t have to “have it all together” for this to work. You just show up—I’ve got you.

If you’re even a little bit thinking about it… do it. You won’t regret it.
